We also specialise in smaller projects, helping you transform your home.

For example, this is one project we undertook for Mr & Mrs Pope at Gwelfor, Penygraig, Llanelli.

The project involved an extension and alterations to the existing property, to provide a new ground floor bedroom, bathroom and conservatory.

Alterations were carried out internally to increase the size of the kitchen and dining area.

The works allowed for access direct from the dining area into the conservatory and landscaped garden area.

The contractor was Mike Hiorns Building Contractor Ltd.

The award-winning Lewis Partnership is playing a key role in the £2million refurbishment of Llanelli’s Coleshill Social Centre.

The centre is being transformed into an innovative ‘one stop shop’ for disabled and disadvantaged people.

“This is a very exciting project for Llanelli and we are very proud to be associated with it,” said Philip Lewis, managing director of the Lewis Partnership.

“As the architects for the project, we are closely involved with delivering the vision for the centre.

“When it is complete, it will be called a ‘centre for economic inclusion’.

“But that only goes a part of the way to describing the work which will go on there,

“It will play a huge part in helping disabled and disadvantaged people to live independent lives.”

Building work is progressing swiftly at the site on the edge of Llanelli’s People’s Park and should be completed by the end of May.

Mr Lewis added: “This is a very innovative project for Llanelli involving all sorts of partnerships and the centre will be a great asset for Llanelli for years to come.”

The new centre will be run by a committee drawn from all groups of people involved, with help from staff and volunteers.

It will provide all kinds of help, advice and information. Support will be available to improve people’s access to health improvement, training and employment, along with opportunities to socialise with other people. It will also enable people to learn the skills necessary to create and run small-scale businesses.

The refurbishment work includes -

Establishment of a one-stop Information shop

Fully neworked IT suite with wireless hubs across the building

Fully refurbished and equipped kitchen with adapted / disability friendly features

Fully equipped woodwork workshop

Demonstration area for daily living equipment

Exemplar bathroom and toilet facilities

Totally modernised and highly fuel efficient central heating system

UPVC double glazed windows

Training rooms for let

Fully equipped pottery training facility with a working kiln

A gym facility adapted for disabled people

The project is jointly funded through the Carmarthenshire County Council’s capital grant programme and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Previously, the Coleshill centre predominantly supported adults with physical disabilities and older people.

On completion, it will attract younger physically disabled people, and a wider group of disadvantaged people including people with learning disabilities and others.

The new Coleshill will continue to provide social, networking and peer support, but will also provide training facilities.

The aim is to improve the social and economic prospects of people who have been unable to find and retain employment or training for a long time due to longstanding ill-health or other severe disabilities.

Dr Brickchand Ramruttun, Carmarthenshire Health and Wellbeing Partnership manager, who help mastermind the bid for funding, said: “The vision for the new Coleshill Centre is that it will have something for all working-age adults to get the necessary help and support they need to sustain independent living, including work and training. The best thing about it is that it will be run by a committee made up of local people, representing disability groups and other interested parties.”

The users of Coleshill day centre, along with staff and volunteers, have been relocated during the transformation.

Cllr Pat Jones, Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for health and social care, said: “This heralds a significant step forward in the range of support services we are able to offer to people who face barriers to training and employment.

”We have met with Coleshill’s current service users, and they are looking forward to the future, having had an explanation of the kind of facilities they will see on their return to Coleshill.”

Some of the activities at the new Coleshill centre will be part-funded from the 2007-2013 Convergence Programme, European Social Fund (ESF) for the approved Collaborative Regional Creating Opportunities and Skills Teams Alliance (COASTAL) project across six local authorities in the West Wales region.

Award-winning South Wales architects the Lewis Partnership are celebrating winning a place on a UK-wide register which is designed to champion efficiency and best practice.

Constructionline is a partnership between the Government and Capita and is designed to deliver savings for both the public and private sector.

“Constructionline isn’t a name which is well known among the general public, but it is a real door-opener in business,” said Lewis Partnership Managing Director Philip Lewis.

“You have to meet key standards for a place on the Constructionline register and we’ve been successful in achieving Constructionline registration.

“Constructionline is the UK’s largest register for pre-qualified contractors and consultants.

“At the heart of what they do is a national online database. In terms of efficiency, time and cost saving and best practice, Constructionline is proven to deliver for public and private sector organisations alike.

“The service is recommended by the Government’s Office Of Government Commerce (OGC) and the Local Government Task Force.”

Mr Lewis added: “We are delighted to secure a place on the Constructionline register and look forward to it paying dividends for us as a successful local business.”

For suppliers to the construction industry, Constructionline means that they no longer need to repeatedly fill in standard pre-qualification forms for every construction tender.

What’s more, with 8,000 buyers already using the Constructionline database to source contractors and consultants, Constructionline is a great tool to market businesses.

All suppliers on Constructionline are pre-qualified to Government standards and maintain relationships with a range of industry, ePurchasing and Government partners to ensure that they remain relevant to procurement professionals within the construction industry.

By reducing duplication in the pre-qualification process, Constructionline helps both buyers and suppliers achieve savings in cost and time spent filling in forms.

Constructionline is a Public-Private Partnership between Capita (the UK’s leading business process outsourcing (BPO) and professional services company) and the Department for Business Innovation & Skills.

South Wales architects the Lewis Partnership are helping to bring one of the most historic university sites in Wales bang up-to-date with a major makeover.

The Lampeter campus of the University of Wales Trinity St David contains a mixture of historic buildings and more contemporary structures which need renovation.

“Even the biggest fan of the Lampeter university campus would have to admit that some of the more modern buildings on site have been in need of a makeover, “said Philip Lewis, managing director of the Lewis Partnership Ltd, of Llanelli.

“There has been an university on the Lampeter site since the early part of the 19th century, so we considered ourselves very privileged to help bring a new, modern and vibrant look to buildings which were looking a little sad.”

The £800,000 project is in the hands of WRW Construction, with all the design work carried out by the Llanelli-based Lewis Partnership.

“It’s been challenging and interesting project for us as architects and it has cemented a growing partnership with the University of Wales Trinity St David,” said Mr Lewis.

“In recent years, we have worked with the university administrators on improvements to the Carmarthen campus at the old Trinity College.

“Now, we’ve had the chance to develop and improve the Lampeter campus and we hope it makes a big difference to the lives of the academics and students working on the campus.

“The work on the current sports hall has involved new cladding, painting and further improvements such as new heating and flooring.

“One of the old squash courts has been put to different use with the construction of a gym and a first floor dance studio.

“The first phase of the work is due for completion at the end of this month.

“The second part of the project sees the refurbishment of the arts building.

“The front façade gets a makeover and classrooms are being given a major facelift. As always, the watchword has been on sustainability and the environment with sun louvres added to the building.

“The project also includes improvements to the concourse in front of the arts building.

“The refurbished buildings will meet all the university’s requirements for accessibility and we hope they meet with the approval of all who use them.”
