The official opening of the new £5.7 million school at Ysgol Carreg Hirfaen took place last friday. Cllr. Eirwyn Wiliams of Carmarthenshire County Council unveiled a slate plaque to commemorate the event.The school, which opened its doors to pupils earlier this year , caters for children aged between four and 11, and also houses a Cylch Meithrin Coedmor.It has state of the art facilities and first class accommodation, including a 3G artificial grass pitch, designed for both school and community use. Ysgol Carreg Hirfaen was delivered through the council’s Modernising Education Programme. The school is sited adjacent to the Canolfan Pentref Cwmann, at the heart of the community, both geographically and culturally The scheme addresses key educational objectives, as well as providing a community resource. Funding was shared between the council and the Welsh Government, through its 21st Century Schools initiative. The school was built by Andrew Scott Ltd.
