Project Description

The Practice was founded in 1995 with the reformation of the previous practice and provided an opportunity for father and Son duo Wynford and Philip Lewis to modernize the approach to architectural projects. With the office established at Ty`r Nant, Parc Trostre it provided the opportune location to work across Llanelli and the wider community.

Along with a range of residential projects at the time our first major project came for Llanelli Town Council which included works to the former Glenalla Chapel which had remained close for many years until Llanelli Town Council bought the property and embarked on an ambitious project to extend and convert the building to provide community facilities including meeting rooms and an auditorium. The initial project was completed in 1992 but works continued to upgrade the buildings in 1995 and still remains a key part of the offices maintenance work to this present day. The practice was fortunate to win a prestigious Prince of Wales Award for the refurbishment.

  • Description of Works - Refurbishment works to existing building

Project Description

We were appointed by Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service to refurbish the existing building and to provide enhanced facilities which would include new bedroom accommodation, community and partnership outlets.

The buildings were to be continually occupied during the works and access had to be maintained for appliance vehicles at all times. The budget was limited but a high quality specification and end result was expected by the client.

In association with the M & E Consultants, materials were specified, primarily with green guide A+ rating to ensure that the environmental impact of the building was minimized. Every effort was made to reduce the energy demand of the building,  before applying any low / zero carbon hardware to the building, in accordance with the accepted Energy Hierarchy regime.

Testimonial

Stephanie Howells - Facilities Manager

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

"We are more than pleased with the performance of Phil Lewis and his team.

This is the first contract we have worked on but Phil Lewis understood our requirements and interpreted the brief into a suitable design for an operational self roster crewed fire station.

We would be happy to recommend his services for any refurbishment project in the future.

Project Description

This project which has recently been completed will provide exemplary facilities and world-class views over the Taf estuary and Gower Peninsula.. The area is famous for its long stretches of unspoilt golden sands, with some of the best family-friendly beaches, coastal paths and birdwatching in Britain. It’s little wonder that Carmarthenshire has inspired so many artists, poets and writers, including Dylan Thomas, who lived in the ancient estuary township of Laugharne nearby.
